How to consume a Credit

I have a credit on my credit card from a cancelled flight. I need to post credit card charges against that credit. If I submit an expense report using the credit and a charge that is less that the credit amount will the new credit amount appear as a transaction that I can use in the future?

@Hill why is the charge less than the credit? 

If you add the credit and the original charge to the same report, there will not be any other transaction showing the difference in these two amounts.
