Introducing a More Guided Experience for Adding an Expense in Concur Expense

A revised user interface for adding expenses to an expense report is being introduced in Concur Expense, with the goal of helping end users more easily create accurate and complete reports.

What is changing?

Currently, when a user creates an expense report in Concur Expense, the report is empty. Next steps and the options for how to add individual expenses may not be clear, especially for a new or infrequent user.

The new, revised user interface offers contextual cues and actions visible directly in the empty expense report. This design update provides the submitter with specific directions and next steps by:

  • Providing more intuitive cues to help users understand available actions
  • Making key actions, like Add Expense, more discoverable
  • Showing users how to add expenses to a report
  • Highlighting options such as uploading receipts to automatically create expenses

By providing contextual guidance, submitters should have an easier time completing the expense report accurately the first time

Why are we making this change?

We’ve heard feedback from administrators and end users that creating an expense report can be confusing, especially for first time users or those who create reports infrequently.

This confusion can lead to uncertainty about how to add expenses and receipts, challenges finding key actions, delays in submitting reports, and send backs.

Customer Benefits

While this updated empty expense report starting UI is primarily an end user improvement, it should also benefit administrators and their expense programs:

  • Improved adoption: users, especially infrequent ones, can create expense reports more easily, reducing friction to submitting reports
  • Reduced support needs: clearer guidance for end uses helps eliminate common points of confusion and reduces requests for admin support
  • Improved data accuracy: helping end users enter expenses correctly from the start reduces errors and rework

When will this update be available?

This enhancement is planned to be released to test entities starting June 24, 2026. It will then be available for all Concur Expense Standard and Profession customers starting July 6, 2026. It also will be available for Concur Cloud for Public Sector customers.

No configuration changes are required, and there is no option to opt out of this UI update.

To help prepare your organization for the new user interface, we recommend that you communicate this change to your end users.
