Introducing SAP Concur Text Messaging Feature: Submit Receipts Instantly via SMS

For many organizations, one of the biggest barriers to expense compliance isn't policy, it’s the moment a receipt is lost, forgotten, or never captured at all. Driving app adoption across a diverse workforce, especially among employees who prefer not to install work applications on personal devices, has been a persistent challenge for finance and IT teams alike. SAP Concur Text Messaging feature eliminates that barrier entirely: users simply text a photo of their receipt to SAP Concur, and Concur handles the rest, no app download, no browser login, no extra steps. This is receipt capture as it should be: instant, effortless, and built for the way people work.

WHAT'S CHANGING

SAP Concur is introducing native SMS and MMS receipt submission functionality at no cost, allowing any Concur Expense user in the US or Canada to text receipts directly to SAP Concur making receipt capture possible without installing the Concur mobile app or accessing a web portal.

HOW TO OPT-IN?

  • Users must opt in by registering and verifying their mobile number in their Concur user profile. One mobile number can be associated with only one Concur account.
  • Users retain full control over their participation by texting 'STOP' to opt out at any time, texting 'START' to opt back in.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • When ExpenseIt is enabled for an organization, receipt data submitted via text is automatically extracted to help create expense entries, reducing manual data entry and accelerating expense report completion.
  • When ExpenseIt is not enabled, receipts submitted via text are stored in the user's Available Receipts repository, where they can be attached to expense entries later ensuring no receipt is lost.
  • International texting fees for users sending messages from outside the US or Canada are the responsibility of the customer organization or individual employee and will not be covered by SAP Concur. Please refer to the FAQs for more information.

WHO IS AFFECTED

  • This feature is available to all United States and Canada based end users of SAP Concur customers across all data centers who use Concur Expense, in both Standard and Professional editions.
  • Geographic availability at launch is limited to the U.S. and Canada and users must have a US or Canadian mobile number registered in their Concur user profile.
  • End users gain a new, app-free method for receipt submission.
  • Expense Administrators can adjust their Communication Settings prior to the release dates if they prefer the feature to remain inactive at launch.
  • The Real-Time Notification (RTN) capability is supported for text messaging feature and it is a separate feature that must be activated by client card admins independently of text messaging.

TIMELINE

  • Starting July 6, 2026 - General Availability for Standard edition customers across all data centers.
  • Starting July 20, 2026 - General Availability for Professional edition customers across all data centers.
  • The feature is enabled by default at release for both editions; administrators who wish to disable it before it goes live should act before their respective GA date.

ACTION REQUIRED

  • Administrators should act before their edition's General Availability date if they do not want text messaging enabled by default. Navigate to Company AdministrationCommunication Settings and disable the Text Messaging toggle prior to July 6, 2026 (Standard) or July 20, 2026 (Professional).
  • Administrators who also wish to activate Real-Time Card Transaction Notifications for corporate cardholders must do so separately, following the instructions on the SAP Help Portal for activating Real-Time Card Transaction Notifications. End users who wish to participate should verify that their mobile number is registered and verified in their Concur user profile.  No other action is required for users once the feature is enabled by their organization.
