API to Extract data for use PowerBI

Hi,

We have two reports built in the intelligence module one for Expense and one for Invoices.

Invoice Report is called "Invoice Extracted" - it has these fields:

The Expense Report i want to replicate:

Is this possible through using the API? As we want to use this for some internal reporting in our Power BI suite.

Regards,

Kieran

@kieran_shah22 I'm not 100% sure what you are asking. You want to build a report in Cognos reporting that has the data items shown in the second screenshot?

Please clarify. 🙂

Thank you,

@KevinD I am looking for a way to extract this data using the API, So I can implement it into our inhouse Power BI reports. I have been directed to try these api calls [https://developer.concur.com/api-reference/expense/expense-report/v3.reports.html] & [https://developer.concur.com/api-reference/invoice/v3.payment-request.html] but not sure how I am supposed to get some of the other bits of data...

@kieran_shah22 does it need to be extracted with an API or are you looking for a way to get all this data into one file, like in Excel or XML?

Thank you,

@KevinD Yes ideally would be good to get a direct report so we can compare to what is in our GL. Yes trying to get in either XML or JSON.

@kieran_shah22 Cognos reports can be run in XML format. As for JSON, that's out of my wheelhouse unless you want to use our Data Delivery Service.

@KevinD We currently have these reports set up in Cognos, However we want to move to our internal Power Bi dashboards to keep all the reports uniform, and allow us to complete some reconciliations / comparisons with what is on our GL system. I do not believe we have access to the DDS? or is there a way to call the cognos report into pbi?

@kieran_shah22 we do not have any connectors from Cognos to other systems.

You may have a look about  playing with WebAPI, OAuth2, PowerBI:

Generate dynamic token & get data from Custom API in Power BI

You'll need postman.

Hi, kieran_shah22:

I was informed at the most recent "Concur Exchange 2025" meeting in Chicago this week that there is an API for a Data Cube that can be extracted from Concur that is able to be accessed by Power BI, Tableau and other third-party data analytics software, but it is a separate purchase from Concur Intelligence. I was told that you could contact your Concur Representative for pricing to determine which is less expensive.

The data cube would be extracted and updated regularly as often as needed. One deficiency though for switching over to the data cube replication that provides access via third-party APIs is that we would need to build in our own security and visibility protocols for any rollups of data. Just something to keep in mind.

Until then, if your intentions are to create Cognos Reports in Concur Intelligence to feed the data into Power BI, then you would need to be aware of all the limitations and deficiencies utilizing this approach. Check you your Concur Representative.

Thanks for this - I will reach out to my concur rep. Seems like it could be a possibility. For what I am looking to report on the API has some limitations.
