Hotel Booking cancelled automatically although hotel had cancellation fee applied

A confirmed booking for a hotel was automatically cancelled by the system although a cancellation fee applied. Credit card was now charged from the hotel with 90% of the entire value. How can it happen that a confirmed booking is cancelled when cancellation fees are applying?

@asalom1967 did you check with your travel agency to see how this got canceled? The system shouldn't be canceling your hotel automatically.
