List management dropdown

We have List Management dropdowns for our job number, department, phase and cost type. When someone drops down the list, the top half is in bold and has pervious used coding. Is there a way to make the bold , pervious used coding go away? It confuses some people and they think that is the only choose and don't scroll down.

@klindbloom that is by system design and I believe it cannot be changed. I didn't see anything to indicate it could be turned off.
