HTML Conditions in Email Template

We are looking to see if anyone has been able to add an IF statement within the HTML code of the email approver notification as we have started getting reports from the aprpovers that when they get an approval email, the submitted username would be listed as the delegate who submitted the report but we need to have the actual employee name.  Was thinking to create an IF condition so that if the report was submitted by the delegate, that the email template would pull the employee name ELSE if would pull the employee name.
