Change to Chart of Accounts/GL Coding

We are changing the chart of accounts in our GL. As such we need to update the codes associated with expense types (i.e. airfare used to be 7300 and is now 751020), and the departments/cost centers associated with employees are also changing format (from 11 characters to 10).

 

  • Are there any best practices to follow?
  • If I update the expense types will expenses that users have already created be updated?
  • Will expense types in reports that have already been submitted be updated?
  • Will the department/cost center be updated for any existing reports or will it only apply to newly created reports?
  • If the above items are not changed when the data is changed is there a way to update the information?
