Approvals - are they necessary?

This is a question for the larger Concur customers out there... have any of you removed the requirement for approvals altogether? Wondering if other companies are doing this to save (the manager's) time so that they can focus on more important tasks while still having the oversight (via intelligence reports/dashboards) they need to effectively manage their budgets... We are considering this model since we will soon be using an AI audit tool to tighten our policy compliance. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated!

Elimination of Manager’s approval may have an impact from Company’s expenditure authorization limit perspective as the approval workflow is built not only from validating the expense compliance but also to ensure budget management/approval perspective, however, with “App zen” coming in we can think of eliminating the Back Office Audit (Accounting Review) which in turn helps in saving time to the company

We do have a manager approval step in our T&E workflow, but it has a 24-hour auto-approval and does not require active approval from the leader.  Our policy still holds them accountable for review of the expenses, but they do not have to act on every report.  We also currently have Detect/AppZen as an audit tool.

Just curious to know if the workflow is set as auto approval then how the Manger will be held accountable for review of expenses. 

We may also think of having this in our company too. Also, is there any additional configuraiton required to set the auto approval workflow for Managers.
