Unable to Delete Receipt/Attachment

There seems to be a bug with receipts attached to expense reports. If you attach a receipt to an expense but then delete that receipt, it persists in the Receipts tab of the report and is unable to be deleted. This is on multiple iOS versions, tested on 18.5, 26.0 and 26.2

In the web view, it appears that this receipt persists because it is an "attachment" instead of "receipt". There is no way to delete attachments in the mobile app, and if I go to report attachments in the web I have the option to delete, but delete does not work.

The only way to delete the erroneous receipt is to delete the report. Once you delete the report, the attachment now shows up under available receipts and can be deleted.

Hi @KatieG ,

I replicated the scenario in the mobile app, and based on my testing, your observation is partially correct. However, I also agree that this appears to be an issue.

I followed below steps:

In Mobile App: (iOS version 26.1 and mobile app version 10.27.1 )

1.  Created new expense report in mobile app with one expense entry, attached receipt by clicking new photo and saved expense.

2. Checked into "Receipt" tab where my receipt is appeared.

3. Re-opened expense entry, this time i deleted the receipt and saved expense.

4. Again checked into "Receipt" tab and observed receipt is still visible and there is no option to delete the receipt.

Up to the first four steps, my testing aligns with your observations. However, the subsequent steps do not fully match my results, as I am able to delete the receipt from the web application.

In Web Application:

5. Opened expense report, expense entry and add receipt option.

6. Here I can see the receipt which i have deleted from mobile app expense entry. step #3.

7. I am also able to see delete option and able to delete the receipt. Refer below testing screenshots.

Receipt has been permanently deleted.

Although it is working for me, I also researched the cause and resolution online and found that this appears to be a known limitation of the Concur iOS app, observed across multiple iOS and app versions.

Adding information for your further reference purposes:

Why this happens (root cause)
1. Receipt vs Attachment are treated differently

In Concur there are two different objects:

  • Receipts
→ Stored in the user’s receipt library
→ Can usually be deleted by the user
  • Attachments (Report-level attachments)
→ Stored inside the expense report
    → Governed by stricter rules
    Mobile app cannot delete these

When you:

  1. Attach a receipt to an expense from the iOS app
  2. Then remove/delete it from the expense

iOS sometimes reclassifies the file as a Report Attachment, not a Receipt.

That’s why:

  • It still appears under the Receipts tab
  • The Delete option is missing or fails
  • Web UI shows it as an attachment, but delete does nothing

2. Why deleting the report “fixes” it

When you delete the entire report:

  • Concur releases the attachment from the report container
  • The file is reprocessed back into Available Receipts
  • At that point, it becomes deletable again

That’s expected behavior based on how Concur stores report-level attachments.

Why delete fails even in the web UI

Even though the web UI shows a Delete option:

  • Backend rules block deletion while the file is still associated with an active report
  • The UI doesn’t surface a proper error
  • Result: Delete appears to work but silently fails

Resolution / Workarounds
Best practice (recommended)

Do not upload receipts as report attachments from mobile unless required.

Instead:

  • Upload receipts to Available Receipts
  • Attach them directly to the expense line

@KatieG one thing to note is that receipts captured using the mobile app cannot be deleted using the web. That may be part of what you encountered.

You shouldn't need to completely delete a report to accomplish removing/deleting a receipt image. At least I've never experienced having to do that.

Hello @KevinD ! Happy 2026 to you!

I need to remove an image that's attached to the report. When I go to Manage Receipts -> Manage Attachments in the report, the receipts appear, but when I try to remove this attached image, the popup closes, and when I reopen it, the attached image is still there.

How can I remove this attached image?

thank u @KevinD!

@m_castro did you by chance attach the receipt to an expense entry or is this receipt attached to the report header? Also, I believe using the Manage Attachments would end up deleting all attach receipts, so I wouldn't recommend using that option. I can see on your report that most of your expenses have receipts attached. So, try going into the individual entry and removing the receipt from there.

@KevinD attached directly to the report

@m_castro I added to my initial reply. Please take a look. Also, keep in mind that if you used the mobile app to attach any receipts, those will not be able to be deleted using the web version. You would either need to use the mobile app to remove the image or on the web, delete the entry and recreate it and attach the correct receipt.

Yes @KevinD , I read your first reply, but I was never able to delete an attachment to the report from the Android app; there's no option to select the receipt and delete it.

@m_castro even if you open the report and drill into an individual entry you don't have an option to remove the receipt? Go to the entry with the receipt that needs to be deleted. When the entry details appear, the receipt image should be at the top. Press the image. When the image opens, look to see if there is a trash can icon in the lower right corner. That is what I see in the iPhone version of the app.

I cannot delete a receipt that is attached to an expense. There is no trash can and when I go to manage receipts, I can select delete receipt and tells me it will be permanently deleted but it is still there afterwards.  This used to be no problem but now it is a problem.
